Hit the surf on a Family Activity Holiday on the Alentejo Coast in Portugal

The Alentejo coast in Portugal, Yup, I have to admit I didn’t know much about it either. But after a little digging I was pleasantly surprised at what I found out.
A hidden gem of Portugal is what they call it, in fact it’s more, much more, it’s simply quite stunning. The Alentejo region of Portugal is home to some of Europes finest beaches, and because it’s not been on what people have considered over the years to be one of the ‘trendy’ spots to hang out, it’s an almost unforgotten haven of beauty and sleepy charm. Inland you will find wheatfields, cork oak forests, wildflower meadows and tiny white-washed villages. The Alentejo coast is one of the least developed and least populated in western Europe, but it’s welcome is warm, the people friendly and the scenery stunning and the surf, oh the surf! The coast line ranges from craggy cliffs to stunning wide and almost empty white sandy beaches a haven for those seeking a holiday a bit off the beaten tourist track, but that gives everything that an adrenaline junky family could want and much, much more!
Activities Abroad have an activity team based here (near the town of Milfontes) that they are proud to say are second to none, so if you are into your surfing or mountain biking, fancy having a go at the zip-wire and climbing wall or would simply prefer to take out a canoe, then you may have just found the perfect destination!
The town of Milfontes is a simply charming place full of character, cobbled streets, white washed buildings, it has an extensive selection of restaurants, and a buzzing nightlife. The summertime atmosphere has a distinctly Portuguese vibe, which means it is social and welcoming, suitable for all ages, including families. The region itself is surrounded by gently undulating hills, with the Mira, the cleanest of all European rivers, running close by.
Activities Abroad offer accomodation at either the Milfontes Beach Hotel, located right on the seafront or at the Duna Parque Hotel also located very close to the stunning white sandy beaches.
The Duna Parque is extremely family friendly offering, swimming pools, saunas, hot tub, a gym, a childrens playground, mini golf and a tennis court! There is free wifi throughout the hotel and the welcoming restaurant serves a range of local dishes including seafood and delicious ‘steak cooked on the stone’
The Milfontes has a great restaurant with a lovely terrace area overlooking Mira River Bay Beach, providing locally-sourced meals and specialities such as seafood and pork dishes.There is a spa area which includes an indoor pool, sauna and hot tub, an impressive gym an outdoor swimming pool and some indoor activities for families to enjoy including snooker and table tennis. wifi is also included throughout the hotel.
This however above all else is an activity holiday and Activities Abroad pride themselves on being extremely open to what is on offer, no hidden costs. It’s quite simple, select as many or as few activities as you wish from the schedule. The price per person depends on the number of activities chosen, couldn’t be easier. The Price per person is based on 4 sharing a one bedroom apartment. These holidays typically require a minimum of four participants to operate properly. However if there are fewer than four people booked, which is exceedingly rare, they will do all that they can to operate the holiday as planned. If this is not possible then you will be informed nine weeks prior to your departure date and all available options will be discussed with you.
