Easter Short Break in Lisbon – Gorgeous Apartments, Martinhal-style
You’re probably already familiar with Martinhal – the family Hotels & Resorts in Portugal which are totally designed with families in mind. They understand that just because you’re travelling with the kids it doesn’t mean you’re willing to give up your luxury holiday experience; they just make it more family-friendly.
Martinhal Lisbon Chiado opened in 2016 as “The World’s First City-Centre Elegant Family Hotel”, and it is right in the heart of Lisbon’s old town! I love the idea – 5-star apartments beautifully designed to suit families with children facilities. You can enjoy the city sights as a family, and also when the kids get fed up (we all know they’re less enamoured with simply walking the streets of a beautiful old city than we are) then they’ll look after the kids with some amazing kids clubs while you head out on your own. Genius.
A day in your short-break at Martinhal Lisbon Chiado Family Suites
Start with a walk through the historic Largo de Camões with most of Lisbon’s famous poets and writers hanging out in one square! Go up the Santa Justa Lift.
Walk down Rua Augusta and then through the Augusta Arch onto Praça do Comercio – the famous square at the Tejo River which housed all activities regularting customs and port activities in Lisbon for centuries. For lunch, head to the Time Out Market – an old market turned-into a modern gourmet food court where Portugal’s top chefs are represented.
After lunch, if the kids are tired, let them have fun back with the Kids Club Staff while you visit the Ancient Art Museum or hop on the Seven Hills Tram to get a general overview of Lisbon’s old town – a great 2hr tour with a multilingual audio guide (you can hop on and hop off as much as you want – we suggest a stop at Portas Del Sol Belvedere for the best Lisbon Views, Estrela Garden and Church). Or try the famous Tram 28, or the city tuk-tuk.
There are so many other things to do – explore Belém, go to the zoo, the LX factory or up the statue of Jesus on the other side of the river. Ideas abound.
The Easter offer includes a 3 night stay at Martinhal Chiado with breakfast included. There’s also complimentary daytime sessions at the Kids Club (with Easter themed programme Special Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday), plus a 24hr Lisbon Card, which gives you free access to various public transport, 28 museums, monuments and attractions, with discounts at several others.
